I think my sons ages 14 and 6,  think that our  ability to live where we do and send them to the best schools we can afford has always been a fundamental right. Today I’ll take some time to remind them that this was not always the case. I’ll let them know that many years ago, all people of color had very limited options of housing, education and jobs.

I’ll let them know that people got tired of the oppression and decided that it had to stop. Dr King, a young preacher led the charge and stood for righteousness and justice for all people , especially black people who suffered the most under the oppressive laws of the day. Those who stood up against justice did it at a very high price. Many of them were beaten, jailed and even killed. Many died and suffered for the price of the freedom we enjoy today and we must never take it for granted. Freedom is never free, just like the salvation we enjoy in Christ, someone had to pay the price.

Dr King knew that he would pay the price with his life, but he looked ahead to the future and saw the freedom it would bring to this nation. By faith he saw that it was possible for the son of an African to be president of the United States.

Shea Radiance was proud to be a part of USAID’s 50th Anniversary, the Agency will be celebrating Public-Private Partnerships in the Shea Butter sector of the West African Trade Hub.
